Payment options

Based on an assessment of your income and assets, you may be eligible for assistance with your accommodation payment. The Australian Government may pay for part of your accommodation costs. Further information will be available on the My Aged Care website.

Residents can choose to pay for their accommodation by a refundable deposit, a daily payment or a combination of both. A refundable deposit is paid as a lump sum amount. A daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically (e.g. fortnightly). A combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments.

Basic Daily Care Fee
The maximum daily care fee for all residents equates to 85% of the basic single age pension. The basic daily fee is set by the Australian Government. For some people this is the only fee they are required to pay.

Care Co-contribution
The resident pays the required amount direct to the aged care provider which reduces the amount of care subsidy paid from the government to the provider.

Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)
This is a lump sum payment for accommodation in an aged care facility and is fully refundable when a resident leaves the facility.

Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)
This payment needs to be made if a RAD has not been paid in full.
