What is the process for admission to a residential aged care facility?
For admission into a residential aged care facility, a consultation and assessment by a family GP is required to determine the level of care needed.
There are five steps to consider:
Consultation with family doctor
Aged Care Assessment
Search for a suitable residential facility for your specific needs
Complete entry pack
Entry into residential aged care facility
What should I consider when choosing a residential aged care facility?
The following should be considered:
Type of accommodation
Recommendations from friends and/or family
The type of environment (e.g. something cosy or open and airy)
Additional care (e.g. extra services such as hotel type services or lifestyle extras with increased meal choices, extra outings and a more luxurious living environment)
Access to and from the facility
Proximity to your community, family and friends
Ageing in place (care needs may increase over time, ageing in place means a resident is not required to move to another facility as care needs increase)
What if care is only required for a short time?
Roshana Care Group facilities accommodate both permanent and short-term residents.
Can I apply to more than one aged care facility?
Yes, you can apply to as many facilities as you wish. When a place becomes available, you or your nominated person will be contacted for a place. If you wish to accept, you should meet with the facility’s manager to discuss your admission.
